all moved in and ready to draw.

Just a short little 'hello". I'm all done moving and am settling in to my new work space. Which I love by the way.  Now I'm playing catch up on all my projects and getting geared up for the 24hr Comic book day. This year I'm doing it on my own. Which will present its own challenges, but I'm looking forward to it. Well I have quite a bit draw today before I go it to work this afternoon.....

Well I'm discovering some of the harder aspects of self publishing. Distribution. My drivearoundtoallthebookstoresandhopetheybuymybook method needs improvement, or something. That's just another way of saying my trip to Boston was not a great success. It was hot(I mean hot, like can't move without sweating kinda hot which is not good for caring books around all day), expensive, and I kept getting lost. All to sell 9 books. But I'll focus on he positive. The people who took my book seem interested in it; "That sounds cool" "These should move fast...here I'll put them over with the new comics". I also learned I need to plan better. Call all the stores I plan to visit, talk to the manager. Also when the manager isn't there, leave a book with a note and contact information. Well as soon as I get my internet working again I'll post links to the stores that are carrying Corpses & Cupcakes chapter 1.

So other then all that. I did get to visit with my bestfriend and play with her puppy( who is still just all mouth and ears from what I can tell). I also saw the cutest little bunny in the Mount Auburn Cemetery. Welp it's back to work on issue 2!

Its heeeerrree!

Well I did it. As I sit here typing a box of freshly printed comic books sits beside me.

That's right Corpses and Cupcakes Chapter 1 is out! 7 months of hard work has produced my first full length graphic novel!!! Now comes the next step; getting people to read it. Since I took the self-publishing route I need to do all the distribution myself. So that means a lot of driving in the next week, since our "local" comic book store is, oh... 45 miles away or so. I'll be posting a list of place where you can buy Corpses and Cupcakes at the end of the week. For now you can buy it from my esty CLICKHERE. A bunch of my co-works at the restaurant have already bought some. It's a great feeling to hear them ask when then next one is coming out as soon as the put it down. :) Issue 2  is already in the works, I'm still in the writing phase. I hope to cut the production time for issue 2 from 7 months to 3. I learned ALOT from this first issue which should translate into issue 2 coming out sooner. I can't wait to start drawing it.

Corpses and Cupcakes update

Wow, I can't believe I'm almost done with my first full length comic book. I should have it ready to send off to print next month. I just have editing, lettering and all the graphic design work left to do. But I'm confident that It'll be done soon. To be this close to having accomplished something like this gives me goosebumps...... well I shouldn't get too worked up just yet there's still a lot of work left to do.  Monday is our monthly meeting of the Brattleboro Comix Lab, and there I will be spending my time scanning the nearly inch high stack of loose pages which make up my story. ahhhh speaking of which I need to redraw a page and a few panels before then.  So I guess it's a short post for today:)

oh so long week and winters still hanging on

I still have not gotten used to not working at the restaurant on weekends. I just feel like I should be grumpily cooking, perhaps setting my kitchen rag on fire or something like that. It has been good for me tho, one of my co-workers commented last night that I seem happier not working so much.  The burnt-out feeling is ever so slowing going away. Perhaps someday I will enjoy cooking again. But for now its just away to pay the bills. Tho work did inspire a little mini comic, hop over to the Project List and check it out(you like it I'm sure of it). I brought some copies into work to share with my co-works, they loved it. I love watching people read my comics. It's satisfying to watch them smile and laugh at the right places.

On the subject of comics, I'm a little stalled with Corpse and Cupcakes. I need the first issue to be longer and I have a bit of writers block. I have an idea of where I want to go i just cant seem to get there so I sit at my desk every morning and write, even if I do just end up scribbling it out. I guess thats all part of the process. I'm still hopeful that I will be able to have it finished soon. I only really need about 15 more pages and need to introduce another character and add some violence.

I've been working on a new painting which is coming a long quite well i think. Also my TV tray was boring so I started a painting on that as well. Painting on wood is a lot different than painting on canvas, its smoother, I kinda like it.

I wonder how many projects i can have going at one time :) hehehe
I think thats why I don't mind the winter so much this year. I'm doing so much that nice weather would just be a distraction. But I am getting a little bit of cabin fever. I've been having this strong desire to go hiking, to spend time in the woods. I'm working on getting myself in better shape so that I can do more hiking and camping this summer. There's something wonderful about hiking a mountain... and its not all about getting to the top either. I don't know its an indescribable feeling, it makes me happy on the same level that my art does. I wish more people in  my life shared that same love with me. Its hard to find people who love to hike.  I'd love to do a multiple day camping/hiking trip this year, THAT would be a great vacation. *sigh*

Well, on that note I am going to make myself some popcorn and sit down to a movie!

Back on the interwebz

Well, Well it sure has been a while since I draged myself away from my work and to the computer. It's been quite a winter so far. But this year I really don't mind all the snow and the cold. It's mostly because with all this "lovely" winter weather I dont feel the urge to go out side away from my art.

I'm still slogging away at 3 jobs, the restaurant, the coffee shop, and MY business. I'm defiantly feeling it. That awful burnt out feeling, and my art production is starting to slow. Hopefully that'll change soon since I dropped a shift at both the restaurant and the coffee shop.  In fact this weekend will be the first time in oh, 4 years that I'll be having weekends off. As someone who's working in restaurants so long that seems strange to me. But you know, I think I'll manage ;)

So back towards the end of december I started an ambitious project which has been taking up a LOT of my time. I began to write and draw my first full length comic book; Corpses and Cupcakes. A story about Aurora, a baker who can make sweets so tasty even the gods drool. But baking isn't the only thing she does well, Aurora is also a powerful Mambo(a voodoo priestess) and things get a little out of control when she starts making zombies to work in her bakery. Issue one should be between 35 and 40 pages, I'm currently drawing page 21. I had hoped to have issue 1 done today but I over estimated the time I'd have to spend on this project. So the deadline is now pushed back a month. I was hoping to have an issue out every two months... but now I see that is a bit too much. Lets see if I can do it in 3!

Hop over to my Project List for a little peek at the art work as well as the other project I've been distracting myself with lately.

OH another thing you'll see on the Project List is my newest hoddies, 86ed.

24hr comics and still drawing

augh I think I'm getting sick. No i am sick but have yet to succumb to the beastly army attacking my body. FIGHT! I cant afford to be sick! Not with deadlines coming up and a 16hr shift tomorrow...... but enough of that.

Last weekend was 24hour comic book weekend. For those of you who don't know it's a challenge to create a 24 page comic book in 24 hours. Myself and a few other Brattleboro artist went to Montpelier . The folks at the Kellogg-Hubbard library  hosted the event(and Trees and Hills). This was my first 24hr comic and not my last. I'm even thinking of doing a 12hr one on  my own as soon as I can carve out the time. I manage to finish mine in 18hrs. Next time I'm going to take a nap and dinner brake. Things got a little silly towards the end. I dozed off a bit with pen in hand somewhere around hr16 too. It was great to be around all those other artist seeing what they were drawing, commiserating over drawing 2 left hands , taking too long on a panel or suddenly not being able to think of what happens next. What fun! I tell ya what drawing for 18 hr straight did nothing to quell my desire to draw, Sunday evening I did a mini painting.
This panel was drawn some where around hour 16.

I think i can blame my current poor heath to beiing awake for over 24hours. It was worth it 'cause I did it!
